We had surf lessons with Nate and Evan, both great instructors. Every person at the shop was kind to us. We enjoyed going out into Hanalei Bay. As first time surfers, we needed a lot of instruction and help, which was received - thank you!
Three of us booked lessons with HSA first thing in the morning. It was the least crowded with no other lessons and miles of empty beach. I surfed once before and the two others were first timers with one who doesn’t know how to swim. Uncle Mitch regaled us with funny but reassuring stories and jokes from the time we got there to the time we got dropped off at the beach. Evan was our instructor and after a few quick on beach pointers, we moved into the water. While it was a pretty clear day with calm waves, Evan got all of us up after the first or second try! He was calm, patient and great at guiding and pointing out what to do.
Great staff, laid back and very patient. Go in and talk with “Modesto”, he’ll get you hooked up. Nate was our instructor, good dude! We all got up on our first try, Nate did a great job of making sure we knew what to do before we paddled out. We all rode several waves before the lesson was over. I highly recommend these guys.
Price wise, HSA were cheaper than the instructors we were given information of at some of the clothing shops and stores. After your first lesson, they also give you a discount on the rentals after. I believe renting a surfboard was $7/half Or full day. Two thumbs up for HSA! I definitely recommend them and love the attitudes and friendliness of the entire company.
Small family run shop. Super nice people. They provide surf and paddleboard as well and lessons if you need them at reasonable prices.
When in Hawaii, surf. If you don’t know how to surf, get lessons. But, don’t get lessons from just anyone, hit up the locals. Not only will they teach you everything you need to know but, you’ll get the added bonus of enjoying Hawaiian hospitality, especially from this boisterous, family run surf shop.
The best experience we had on the island. Not only do they have the best instructors but they are some of the nicest people we have ever met. We enjoyed it so much we took a lesson almost every day on our vacation.
